After Spaying, time to pick up Styx

A FEW DAYS BEFORE Christmas we took our cat, Styx, to the veterinarian to be spayed.

When she got home the look in her eyes said, “You stole my womanhood.”

It had to be done, of course. Every time Styx runs out the door with her eye on that dirty Tomcat across the street, I picture her coming back pregnant. Not to mention her ruined reputation, and the other cats calling her a hussy.

Having her spayed will alleviate those worries, but there are a million more concerns where those came from. I know the kind of trouble that comes with pets. After all, I’ve been through this sort of thing before.

A retrospective on 2013 in the Jones household: Happy New Year everyone!

THIS HAS BEEN quite a year for the Jones family, so rather than boring you with New Year’s resolutions that I’m sure to break within a week or two, I figured I’d share the highlights of 2013.

It was a year that began with my family desperately clinging to the remnants of 2012, beginning with a live Christmas tree we kept until it was mummified. Things went downhill from there.

In January, I switched jobs, and was forced to end a five-year-relationship with my employer-provided BlackBerry—the phone my daughter Eve once called my electronic wife.
