Ailing 76ers need a doctor — Dr J

LAST WEDNESDAY I took the family to see the Sixers and watched them extend their 20-plus-game losing streak.

It was the first Sixers game for Eve, who was primarily interested in the food. It was the second game for Little Solomon, who uses such occasions as an opportunity to yell at the top of his lungs. LaVeta? It was her first game in a long time, and she reminded me of that at least 50 times.

“The last time I went to a Sixers game,” she said as we pulled into the parking lot, “Rick Mahorn and Charles Barkley were playing. Now that team had personality.”

I smiled and said, “I know.”

“The last time I went to a Sixers game,” LaVeta said as we made our way to our seats, “they were playing in the Spectrum. Now that place had personality.”

She was right, so I smiled, clasped her hand and said, “I know.”

Henry Sims missed a layup.

That’s when LaVeta leaned over and said. “This wouldn’t be happening if Doctor J was still playing.”
